JORHAT, Nov 2 - Assam Rifles Soccer Team sailed into the semifinal stage of the 52nd ATPA Shield Football tournament.
In a one-sided quarterfinal encounter at the Jorhat stadium here today, the riflemen handed a 5-2 drubbing to Vibgyor Club of Nagaon. It was an action packed first session as the first 45 minutes of the game witnessed as many as five goals.
Assam Rifles took a commendable 3-0 lead through veteran Akum Ao (19th and 27th minute) and Zuala (35th minute). But the Nagaon boys bounced back in the later part of the first session and reduced the margin to 2-3. Yasin Baktiar and Sidhartha Pator netted one goal each in the 44th and 45th minute respectively. In the second session Zuala (64th minute) and H Haokip (74th minute) sealed the fate of the match and earned a convincing victory for their team.
