Rich tributes paid to Sanskrit scholar Ganganath Shastry

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - Every parent should teach their children to maintain the path of truthfulness. There is a very small number of people who maintain the path of truth in society these days. So, if children maintain a truthful life, it will become easy and smooth for them to achieve success in life as they grow up, said Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia while delivering the Ganganath Shastry Memorial Lecture during a meeting held at the Balaji Mandir auditorium recently.

Urging the students to be truthful in life and emphasising the importance of truth, he also stressed the importance of value-based education instead of a result-oriented educational system in society.

Recalling the contributions of the legendary Sanskrit scholar and Presidents Award winning teacher in creating awareness about Sanskrit literature and the value of truthfulness, Saikia stressed the need of preserving the values espoused by Ganganath Shastry in the greater interest of the young generation.

Seven students who secured the highest marks in Sanskrit in the recently concluded HSLC and HSSLC Examinations were felicitated during the programme, which was organised by Pandit GN Shastry Memorial Educational Trust.

Participating in the programme, leading educationists of the State, including Dr Hitesh Deka, Dr Malini Goswami, Dr Abani Kumar Bhagawati and Dr Niranjan Kalita, also spoke on various aspects of the Sanskrit scholar.

Prafulla Chandra Sharma, secretary of the Trust, and Jyotirmay Sharma, spokesperson, apprised the gathering about various activities undertaken by the Trust.
