Rich tributes paid to Bhupenda

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 � The third death anniversary of cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika was celebrated here today by different institutes, organisations and political parties today, fondly remembering the contributions of the music legend towards promotion of peace and brotherhood.

The Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMC) organised a programme at Rajiv Bhawan where a memorial meet was held. APMC president Mridula Saharia first lit the earthen lamp at the portrait of the legendcian and paid floral tributes to the legend. She then delivered a speech on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and his contribution towards the Assamese society. "The music maestro has left behind a rich legacy to inspire thousands around the world for ages to come. He was a complete cultural icon- a lyricist, musician, singer, poet, film-maker, orator, writer and translator."

Uttara Kalita and Hironmoyee Hazarika also paid homage to the icon by speaking at length about their experiences with Dr. Hazarika and the lessons they learnt from him about life. The meeting ended with a poem recitation, composed by Dr Hazarika, by Parul Saharia, joint convener, Media Cell, APMC.

The Gauhati Artists� Guild also observed the third death anniversary by organizing a musical programme at its campus today.

Students of the Guild, their parents and guardians, Guild members, and musician Kishore Giri participated in the event. A procession featuring children was also led by Kishore Giri.
