GUWAHATI, Aug 3 The Anti-corruption and Vigilance wing of the Assam Police today raided the Panjabari-based farmhouse of RH Khan, the prime accused in the multi-crore fund diversion scam in the NC Hills District Autonomous Council (Dima Hasao).
As part of its continued operation, sleuths of the anti-corruption wing conducted a thorough search in and around the farmhouse since afternoon, although nothing objectionable could be recovered till the time of filing this report.
The investigators, on the strength of Anti-corruption and Vigilance Police Station case number 6/12, had on Thursday raided the house of the suspended joint director of the Social Welfare department located in Tarun Nagar area. The sleuths had recovered a number of incriminating documents.
The Anti-corruption and Vigilance wing had registered the case after the Central Bureau of Investigation suggested to the State Government to conduct a separate inquiry against the accused.
Certain portions of the premises were also dug out in search of cash and other valuables, said sources, adding that the premises were being looked after by one of the relatives of RH Khan.
We are examining the documents that were recovered yesterday and more searches will be conducted by the department in days to come, sources added.
The case registered with the Anti-corruption wing against Khan relates to possession of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Khan, presently in judicial custody, allegedly played a key role in diverting public funds towards militant activities in the NC Hills district.
