RGS bag best team title

GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - Royal Global School (rgs) won the best team title in the Akshayam Independence Day Chess Championship held yesterday at the Bhabendra Nath Saikia Children Welfare Trust in Wireless here. Altogether 95 players from the city took part in the day-long event to celebrate the 71st Independence Day. The tournament was organised by Assam Chess Club.

The tournament was inaugurated by Preeti Saikia, Managing Trustee, Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia Children Welfare Trust in the presence of Kumud Chandra Bhattacharyya, treasurer Akshayam; Dr Siben Dutta, president, Akshayam; Dr Devajit Sarma, vice president, Assam Chess Club and Mrinal Kakati, joint secretary, Assam Chess Club. In the closing function, Dr Dipali Devi, founder Akshayam, Preeti Saikia, Bishov Lal Pathak, convenor, BJP Sports Cell, Assam gave away the prizes.

The prize winners are: (Up to Class I) Champion: Keertan Kalita, 2nd: Darsh Jain, 3rd: Anubhav Thakuria. (Class 2 to 3) Champion: Arush Sharma, 2nd: Karnav P Deka, 3rd: Krishiv Kalita. (Class 4 to 6) Champion: Bhringnish Kalita, 2nd: Nihad Islam Hazarika, 3rd: Ashvin Sharma. (Class 7 to 9) Champion: Dhyan Olemmyan, 2nd: Rishabh Singh, 3rd: Shivesh Poddar. (Open category) Champion: Aarohon Bharadwaj, 2nd: Uddipta Kakati, 3rd: Ravikant Tiwari. (Best girls) Lulakshi Mahanta, Nibhriti Goswami, Arnavi Acharya. (Most promising player) Soumyadeep Deb, Arjun Hazarika, Abhirup Saikia. (Youngest players) Harshadeep Deka, Poojan Sarma Bordoloi, Sooryansh Choukhany. (Best School) Royal Global School.
