GUWAHATI, Feb 26 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi unveiled the bust of RG Baruah, an architect of modern Assam, in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Gogoi recalled the contributions of RG Baruah in the overall development of the State.
He also lauded The Assam Tribune set up by RG for maintaining the ethics of journalism for over seven decades since its inception.
�We need more such newspapers which project the real picture without tampering it and serve the people in the truest sense of the term,� Gogoi said.
The bust, designed by noted sculptor Biren Singha, has been donated by the family members of RG Baruah.
The bust unveiling ceremony was attended by Forest and Tourism Minister Rockybul Hussain, Sports Commissioner Ajai Tiwari, Director General of Sports Authority of Assam Pradip Hazarika, veteran sports personalities like Pulin Das, Dr Sarat Dutta and NN Singh, and Member Secretary State-level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare Rekibuddin Ahmed and Deputy Director of Sports Gautam Das, among others.
Family members of RG Baruah including PG Baruah, Editor of The Assam Tribune and TG Baruah, chairman of the Assam Tribune group of newspapers also attended the function.
