Resume updating of NRC: BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 8 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh today demanded immediate resumption of the process of updating the NRC that was suspended on account of the Barpeta incident.

Addressing media-persons here, State BJP president Ranjit Dutta said that the process of NRC update must begin in all the districts at the earliest.

Dutta, who acknowledged that the party needed a new strategy to gain support of the masses, said that since the Assembly election result the party has been devoting time on introspection and critical analysis.

"In the coming days we will chalk out our new strategy to strengthen our organizational base across the State. Presently we are analyzing what went wrong in our approach which made the people reject us," said Dutta adding that the party would target the people at the grass-root and enroll at least ten members in the party from every village in Assam.

Dutta said that the party had another important work to do that is to take action against all those party members who were involved in anti-party activities during the Assembly election. "As per the provisions of our party constitution, necessary action would be taken," he said.

Mentioning that the BJP will play an active role outside the Assembly, Dutta said that the party will protest against all anti-people activities of the government.

On the other hand, Dutta said that the people of Assam should take it seriously the issue of emergence of the AIUDF in the politics of Assam. He pointed out that this development would pose threat to the identity and existence of the indigenous communities in the State. "We appeal to the people of Assam to take note of the fact that the Bangladeshis are on their way to capture political power," he said asserting that the BJP would continue to raise voice against the Bangladeshis.
