Results show actual status of education, says Himanta

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 31 - Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and officials at the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) have said that the HSLC results declared today portrays the actual academic status of the students.

Sarma said enhanced vigilance at the examination centres prevented students from adopting unfair means. Those schools, which registered poor results, were centres where there were high instances of cheating in the previous years.

When pointed to the poor performance of government schools, the minister said the issue needs to be analysed.

He also announced that Scooties will be awarded to the top 1,000 girls who cleared the HSLC examination, while laptops will be awarded to students securing star marks within 45 days, he said.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) has blamed the State Government, in particular Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, for what it termed as poor show by the government schools in the HSLC examination.

In a statement, AASU said that the results have exposed the pathetic educational environment in the vernacular schools run by the government.

The student body also said that it will hold a special felicitation programme for rank holders of the HSLC, High Madrassa and the Higher Secondary exams at 11 am on June 8 at Rabindra Bhawan here.
