GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - With a view to protecting the ecology and ecosystem of the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary from picnickers who flock to the place during the winter months, the City Police has prohibited assembly of more than five persons in and around the sanctuary for picnic.
The order, issued under Section 144 of CrPC by Mridulananda Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Police District, Guwahati, will remain in force till March 31, 2018.
�... in the winter season of 2017-18, lots of people from various parts of Guwahati city and adjoining areas are likely to go to the core area of the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary for picnic. This may lead to violation of law and order in that area... it is necessary to take preventive measures for maintaining law and order in that area as well as to protect wildlife and ecosystem of the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary,� said the order.
