GUWAHATI, Oct 9 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore the Special Category State status for Assam and other North Eastern States, stated an official press release here.

In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, Gogoi also sought the PMs intervention for a change in the funding pattern of the Centrally-sponsored schemes. Change in funding pattern of the Centrally-sponsored schemes has retarded the pace of development in the State, he said.

It may be recalled that after the present dispensation at the Centre took over the reign, the Special Category State Status for Assam and other North Eastern States have been suspended. Over and above, the funding pattern for the Centrally- sponsored schemes has also been changed, thus affecting the pace of development in the State, stated the press release.
