Residential school principal in CBSE panel

GUWAHATI, May 30 - Dr NK Dutta, founder and Principal of Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS), has been appointed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to represent the north-eastern region in the 9-member committee of experts for developing materials on education for peace, according to a press release issued here.

The purpose of the committee is to outline a curriculum framework on education for peace in the light of the National Curriculum Frameworks (NCF 2005) to be implemented in the schools affiliated to CBSE.

The role of the committee is to suggest ways or models of integrating peace values in the school curriculum; to define the role of schools and teachers in making their institution a place of peace; to outline the rationale, relevance and conceptual framework for education for peace from different levels of strategies; to define the pedagogy and teaching methodologies to be adopted by teachers for imparting education for peace; to relook into the values of education framework developed by the Board from the point of view of integrating it to the framework for education for peace.

At a meeting of subject experts held recently at CBSE, New Delhi, the committee discussed the basic framework for the handbook on education for peace and the model for introducing education for peace in schools. The committee is to submit its report within three months.

Dr Dutta is going to cover the following domains: defining peace and its concerns, causes of conflicts and conflict resolution, and integrating peace to the curriculum by developing content for pedagogy on treating methodologies, the press release added.
