SILCHAR, Nov 30 - Ahead of next year�s Panchayat election in the State, the Cachar district administration has finalised the reservation of seats for the 27 Zila Parishad (ZP) and 15 Anchalik Panchayat (AP) seats including posts for president, vice-president and 162 members.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan said that the reservation of seats has been calculated in sync with the 2011 census report.
�There are15,33,375 SC people in the rural areas of the district while the number of ST has been recorded at 36,901. Based on the total population pattern, out of 27 ZPC seats, four seats have been earmarked for scheduled caste candidates including two seats reserved for women candidates. Looking at previous reservation patterns, the ZP seats of Borkhola (South and North), Katigorah (North) and East Silchar have been reserved for scheduled caste candidates,� the DC informed. Interestingly, along with North Katigorah, the East Silchar ZP seats have been allotted for Scheduled Caste women candidates.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner also informed that following the conditions set by the State Election Commission for securing 50 per cent seats for women, 14 out of the 27 ZP seats have been reserved for women candidates in the district.
On the other hand, in the case of Anchalik Panchayat, out of total 15 seats, 8 seats have been kept reserved for women while one seat has been kept for Scheduled Caste (women) and another as an open seat. Meanwhile, according to sources at the Cachar district administration, reservation of seats for the Gaon Panchayat tier shall be sorted out on December 5.
