Repairing works of NH-53 begin

HAILAKANDI, April 23 - The repairing of erosion effected NH 53 in Panchgram area of Hailakandi district started following the intervention of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Adil Khan inspected the stretch of the road which had caved in.�

The Chief Minister called up the Deputy Commi-ssioner�on Friday.�

Inspecting the damaged portion, Deputy Commissioner Khan directed the Executive Engineers of PWD (NH) and Water Resources to repair the stretch of the road on a war-footing.

Executive Engineer, NH(PWD), PP Nath informed that a portion of NH 53 near Panchgram had caved in causing a 4-inch depth and affecting a stretch measuring 20 to 30 metre in length and around 2 meter in breadth.�

Nath said that pitching would be done once the Water Resources Department completes the surface strengthening work. He informed that following the directive of the Deputy Commissioner, a speed breaker would be erected with a signboard �drive cautiously� to prevent any accident.�

Executive Engineer, Water Resources, Subrata Das informed that though flood protection work in the downstream of Barak river has been going on, it has not affected the NH. However, he assured that repairing work would be carried out jointly with the PWD (NH) soon.�

District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar, Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra and other officials accompanied the Deputy Commissioner.
