JALUKBARI, July 9 - The Post Graduate Students Union (PGSU) of Gauhati University in an informal discussion with the Vice Chancellor recently, demanded renaming of the major academic buildings of the university. The VC has given his consent to the move put forward by the union body.
Monjit Sharma, general secretary of PGSU said, �We have many icons who have contributed immensely for society in Assam. This demand has been initiated to honour them for their contributions towards the Assamese society.� He added that renaming of the buildings would also help the student community in easily identifying the GU buildings. Sharma further added that a meeting would be held between the university authorities and the union body during the current month, and the renaming of the buildings would come into force during the current session.
As per the demand put forward, the New Academic Building will be renamed as Lakshminath Bezbaroa Bhawan, New Arts Building will be renamed as Surya Kumar Bhuyan Bhawan, Arts Building will be renamed as Dr Banikanta Kakoti Bhawan and AT Hall will be renamed as Bishnu Prasad Rabha Bhawan.
