Remit salaries, ask us to vacate quarters later: HPC Mill employees

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Dec 26 - Already burdened under a plethora of woes, the recent order issued by the liquidator of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited asking the employees to vacate the residential quarters at various locations including Panchgram and even at Salt Lake in Kolkata has added insult to the bruises of the employees reeling under acute financial crunch.

This is the worst the Government could have inflicted upon us, who are left at the mercy of heavens with no salary since the past 35 months. As per the liquidators order issued on December 23 to the occupants of the HPC's quarters, we are asked to empty the quarters latest by January 31, 2020. The employees of Cachar and Nagaon units of the Mills have, however, decided not to adhere to the order unless the pending salaries are remitted, said Manabendra Chakraborty, the president of the Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions.

Moreover, the employees demanded that essential services like water and electricity supply along with service to deal with the mills employees issues should remain uninterrupted and sought the intervention of the authorities concerned into the matter while they made it clear that they would continue to echo voices for their legitimate claims till death.

It may be mentioned that the Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram and Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad have been closed since October, 2015 and March, 2017 respectively.
