Religion sans sympathy meaningless: Mooshahary

SUALKUCHI, Feb 8 - The centenary celebration of Dadara Sarbajanin Saradiya Sri Sri Durga Puja was celebrated with a day-long programme recently.

The programme started with prabhat pheri at 5:30 am followed by the centenary flag hoisting by Sankar Saikia, president of the celebration committee. To mark the occasion, 100 flags were hoisted by 100 citizens representing different walks of life.

Later, a cultural procession was taken out through the main thoroughfares of Dalibari, Dadara and Pachariya. Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup flaged off the procession.

The inaugural meeting of the centenary celebration was held with Sankar Saikia in the chair. Illuminating the ceremonial centenary celebration jar, Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary, former Governor of Meghalya, observed that compassion is a great virtue of religion. However, religion sans sympathy is meaningless. Karuna (sympathy) is the principal quality of a pious man, he observed.
