Relief distributed in flood-hit Mayong circle

JAGIROAD, Aug 2 - The flood situation in Mayong circle in Morigaon district was still critical, where about 2.9 lakh people of 139 villages under four mouzas, namely Pokoria, Mayong, Manaha and Ghagua have been affected by the current wave of flood.

On the other hand, over 4,000 hectares of cropland have been damaged.

When contacted, the Circle Officer of Mayong, Ananta Gogoi told this Correspondent that as many as four relief camps and 17 temporary shelters have been set up in different places under the circle where about 8,000 people are taking shelter.

The district administration has so far distributed relief material like 3,592.53 quintals of rice, 668.37 quintals of dal, 200.47 quintals of salt, 350 quintals of wheat bran, 240 quintals of green grass, 5,000 pieces of tarpaulin, 182 tubewells, besides other material among the flood-affected people, added the CO. Flood-related deaths within Morigaon district has gone up to five during the current wave of flood, the Gogoi added.
