Regularise CIC operators services: HC

By Correspondent

JAMUGURIHAT, March 8 - Giving a verdict in favour of All Assam Community Information Centre Employees Association (AACICEA), the Gauhati High Court recently ordered the State Government to regularise the jobs of 438 operators of Community Information Centres (CIC). The court also asked the Government to release their arrears from 2009.

To bring the information technology (IT) facilities to the door steps of the common people, the State Government started the Community Information Centres (CIC) across the State with the help of the Centre.

In each of the 219 development blocks of Assam, CICs were started with two operators in 2002 with a fixed pay of Rs 5,500 per month. Till 2009, these CICs were functioning well and the people were immensely benefitted by the CICs. However, CICs had stopped functioning and operators were jobless as they were not getting their salaries.

Later, the operators formed an association called the All Assam Community Information Centre Employees Association (AACICEA) and approached the High Court seeking justice. Finally, the legal battle between the Government and the association ended with the court verdict in favour of the operators.
