Regionalism still relevant: Mahanta

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 25 Asom Gana Parishad president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today said that regionalism is still relevant in Assam and expressed the hope that the party would do better in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

The two-time former Chief Minister was addressing the media on the occasion of the release of a CD, Asomor Sarthot Bolistho Kontho. The CD aims at disseminating the party message and motto among the people of Assam. The CD, with six songs, has been produced by Manoj Saikia and will be used during AGPs election campaign across the State.

We have fielded 12 strong candidates and are hopeful of their good show, Mahanta stated. He said that the party would continue to stand against anything that goes against the States interests.

Both the Congress and the BJP are High Command-centric parties and under such circumstances, a regional force like the AGP is emerging as the answer, he said.

The land swap deal with Bangladesh was a wrong decision and we have been constantly opposing it.
