Regionalism only panacea for woes: AGP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 18 Regionalism is the only panacea for the political and economic woes of the people of Assam. The parties like the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are simply not sympathetic to the people of the State.

This was the observation made the by Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora while addressing the people in Rangiya areas on the ninth day of the partys Jatiya Chetana Yatra. On the occasion, public meetings were held at Rangiya, Baidyagarh, Tulasibari, Bisannala, Madhya Panduri, Jayantipur, Dimu and Borka.

Bora alleged that the Congress Government in the State is patronizing the abnormal rise in the prices of the essential items. This Government has lost all rights to be in power. On the other hand, the BJP Government at the Centre has let down the people of the State, he alleged.

Addressing the meetings, former Chief Minister as well as a former president of the party Prafulla Kumar Mahanta held the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government responsible for the present socio-political and economic instability in the State. He also claimed that the State Government is reaping the benefits of the good works done by the AGP-led Governments.

Several other leaders of the party also took part in the Yatra organised to generate public awareness on the burning issues of the State. They included party general secretaries Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Pradip Hazarika, Dr Kamala Kalita, Durga Das Boro, Utpal Dutta, Keshab Mahanta, senior leaders Thaneswar Boro, Rekharani Das Boro, Satyabrata Kalita, Dharmeswar Saikia, Moyidul Islam Bora, Bimalendu Sinha, Lachit Bordoloi, Yuba Parishad president Sunil Rajkonwar and Mahila Parishad secretary Queen Hazarika, among others, said a press release.
