GUWAHATI, Dec 27 - The regional centre of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) was formally inaugurated in Guwahati on December 23 at a modest function held at the Guwahati Town Club, a press release stated.
Narayan Chandra Goswami, Satradhikar of Natun Kamalabari Satra of river island Majuli was the chief guest at the function. Padmashree Jatin Goswami, an exponent of Sattriya classical dance was the guest of honour. Special guests who attended the august function included VB Pyarelal, Additional Chief Secretary, State Cultural Affairs Department, and Pritam Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, State Department of Cultural Affairs. Dr Sachidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA, New Delhi and special dignitaries along with the Director of the regional centre, Dr Richa Negi lit the ceremonial lamps marking an auspicious beginning for the regional centre.
It may perhaps not be out of place to mention here that the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts is an autonomous trust established by the Government of India under the Union Ministry of Culture. The IGNCA has been working since its establishment as a major resource centre for cultural resource material both in India and abroad.
