UDALGURI, March 28 The United Democratic Peoples Front (UDPF), a regional political party of the BTC region, has decided to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Mangaldai, Tezpur and Lakhimpur constituencies in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This was stated by Prodeep Kumar Daimary, MCLA and president of the regional party, on Thursday.

Talking to this Correspondent, Daimary said that the BJP had made a lot of contribution to the welfare of the tribals of the country during the last NDA regime, and that the tribal people should not forget this. He added that like-minded political organisations like the Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) and student bodies like the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), too have their goodwill towards the BJP for the saffron partys positive attitude to the problems of the Bodos in the region which could be instrumental in realising the demand for a separate State of Bodoland in the near future.

Meanwhile, the election fever has not gripped Udalguri so far as heavyweight candidates of the contesting parties are yet to visit the district.
