Re-verification of 28 Bru families

By The Assam Tribune

AIZAWL, Feb 10 Mizoram-Tripura border Mamit district administration officials were conducting re-verification of the 28 Bru families who returned on their own during January from North Tripura relief camps and were not enrolled in the Mizorams voters lists, official sources said today.

The Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Mamit district Hmunsanga told PTI over phone that those who could not prove that they were bona fide residents of Mizoram would be deported to Tripura.

The SDO (Sadar) has been conducting re-verification and if at least one of the family members is enrolled in the voters lists or has documents like job card under MGNREGS or ration card, the family can be regarded as bona fide residents of the state, he said.

Around 221 Bru families have returned to Mizoram on their own during January last after the state government called off the repatriation process due to obstruction by anti-repatriation elements amongst the refugees and 28 families were detected as not enrolled in the electoral rolls in Mizoram. PTI
