By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, July 21 - Newly appointed Congress general secretary in-charge for Assam, Harish Rawat today said that names of all genuine Indian citizens should be included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Interacting with newsmen here today, Rawat said that he is going to visit Assam from July 26 to 29 on the invitation of the Assam PCC.

Rawat said that he fully endorsed the stand finalised by the PCC on the NRC issue and on the issue of alliances for the 2019 general election. The PCC had early this week written to the Home Minister seeking his intervention on the NRC updating process alleging that lakhs of genuine Indian citizens may be left out of the final draft.

Peace should prevail in Assam and names of all genuine citizens should be included in the NRC, he said.

On the issue of alliances, sources said that the general mood in the party is against forging an alliance with the AIUDF.

Meanwhile, Rawat claimed that in Assam, the Congress party will emerge stronger. The BJP has won elections on the strength of money and muscle power, he alleged.

The general secretary said that the popularity of the Congress has not waned in Assam and shortly a political agenda will be drafted. The Congress party can defeat the BJP in Assam, he asserted.
