Ravi allays fears over Article 371(A)

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Aug 6 - Newly-appointed Nagaland Governor RN Ravi today allayed fears over any possibility of similar action on Article 371 (A) in Nagaland following scrapping of Article 370 that provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre on Monday.

In a message, the Governor urged the people of the State not to worry at all. Article 371(A) is a solemn commitment to the people of Nagaland. It is a sacred commitment, he asserted.

Ravi made the assurance after some people expressed apprehensions over the implications of the development in Jammu and Kashmir on Nagaland. We are earnestly working to happily conclude the ongoing political process which is at a very advanced stage, he added.

Article 371 (A) of the Constitution grants special provisions to Nagaland to safeguard the customary laws, social practices and beliefs of its people, and its resources from the intervention of the Union Government and its various policies unless the State Assembly so decides by resolution.

The Governor called on President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi today and briefed them on matters pertaining to Nagaland, a Raj Bhavan release said. This was Ravis first meeting with them in the capacity of the Governor of Nagaland.
