Ratna Ojha to get Dr Bhupen Hazarika Award

GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika Award instituted by Sanskritik Mahasabha, Asom, in the memory of the cultural icon, will be conferred on veteran cultural activist, writer, dramatist and actor Ratna Ojha, the former vice-chairman of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, stated a press release.

Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has consented to hand over the award to Ojha in a function to be held in the auditorium of Guwahati District Library on November 5.

Jitendra Nath Pradhani, the president of Assam Satra Mahasabha, will deliver the inaugural speech which will be presided over by Sankar Das, president of Sanskritik Mahasabha.

A felicitation book, with the writings of different persons on his cultural and literary works, will be released on the occasion. The biennial award carries a memento, a citation, chador etc.

Earlier, the award was conferred on Dr Birendra Nath Dutta, research scholar of folk culture, HoD of Folklore, Gauhati University, and a former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 2013.
