IMPHAL, June 21 � With the arrival of monsoon, people here have started celebrating the weeklong Rath Yatra, locally known as �Kang Chingba�, with pomp and gaiety from Thursday.
The main event of the festival was held at the Shree Shree Gobindajee Temple in Imphal East district. A large number of devotees turned up at the temple to take part in the festival braving the seasonal downpour.
The main Kang Chingba festival was celebrated at the Gobindajee Temple and ISKCON�s Mani Mandir, both in Imphal, with a huge turnout of devotees. The Gobindajee Temple board pulls the traditional big chariot in front of its gate, while ISKCON temple authority celebrates the festival by pulling a Puri-type mini kang (chariot) along the Imphal-Airport road.
