TINSUKIA, April 8 - Special Court Judge PJ Saikia convicted one Ram Kishore Karmakar of Purana Line, Silikha Tea Estate under Doomdooma Police Station and sentenced him for 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) with Rs 10,000.00 as fine after finding him guilty of raping a minor girl on Saturday.

The Special Court Judge also directed the District Legal Service Authority to pay a sum of Rs 50,000.00 to the victim girl as compensation. The case was filed in 2013 after filing of the Ejahar by the brother of the victim girl at the Doomdooma Police Station after his sister disclosed the name of the convicted person responsible for her pregnancy in front of the public at a meeting.

Police subsequently registered a case vide Case No. 307/13 and investigated the matter and submitted a chargesheet against the convicted person in 2015. The Judge in his judgement mentioned that for failure to pay the fine amount of Rs10,000.00, the convicted person will have to undergo an additional month�s rigorous imprisonment.
