Rape-murder accused gets lifer

GUWAHATI, Jan 24 - The Court of the Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court � FTC) Number 4, Kamrup Metro here today gave life imprisonment to Akbar Ali, the accused in the June 23, 2015 rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman in the Number-2 Anandanagar area under Noonmati Police Station here.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge (FTC) 4, Kamrup Metro PR Rajmedhi, while pronouncing the sentence, said that Akbar Ali (23) would �suffer imprisonment for life for the offence committed by him under sections 302 IPC and (is) to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 in default to RI (rigorous imprisonment) for one year.�

�He is also sentenced to suffer RI for 7 years and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 376 (1) of IPC. Both the sentences shall run concurrently,� said the court.

It has also ordered a compensation of Rs 1,00,000 to the mother of the victim under the victim compensation scheme of Section 357 (A) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Additional Public Prosecutors BC Bhattacharjee and BA Ahmed represented the State, while advocates PB Bordoloi and S Buragohain represented the accused in the case.
