Ranking TT tourney begins at Jorhat

JORHAT, July 15 � A record number of 350 players are vying for titles in different categories in the Hiren Baruah All Assam Ranking Table Tennis Championship which got off at the Kushal Konwar Indoor Stadium here today.

The championship has been organised by Jorhat District table Tennis Association (JDTTA) under the guidance of Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA).

On the opening day, pre-quarterfinal stage was reached in the cadet and sub junior categories. Players from ATTA affiliated units like Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Nazira, Golaghat, Nagaon, Guwahati, Mangaldai and North Lakhimpur alongwith host team Jorhat are taking part in the meet. The highest number of entries (167) are received in the sub junior boys category.

The meet was inaugurated by Jorhat DC Ramesh Chandra Jain in a colourful opening ceremony. Chairman of Jorhat Municipal Board Prasanta Bora was the guest of honour in the function while ATTA treasurer and Jorhat TT body secretary Nayanjyoti Sarma gave details of the championship. Dr Tapan Dutta, chief patron of the association spoke on the contribution of Hiren Baruah. The function was presided over by JDTTA president Dr Zakir Ahmed.
