Ramachandran reviews security in State

GUWAHATI, Feb 29 � Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran today reviewed the internal security scenario of the State at a meeting with top security officials and bureaucrats of the State, where a host of issues ranging from border fencing to current law-and-order scenario were discussed.

During the meeting, which lasted for almost two hours at Raj Bhavan, the Union Minister also discussed on the Maoist threat and ways to nip the menace in the bud.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Ramachandran said, �We have discussed the issues concerning the State. As far as border fencing is concerned, we are on the job.�

Asked to comment on Tuesday�s grenade blast, he said that he had discussed the matter with the top police officials and was assured that very soon the culprits would be nabbed.�

On China�s recent comment in connection with Union Defence AK Anthony�s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, he asserted �Arunachal Pradesh is a part of India and nothing more is needed to be said on that�.

Ramachandran is scheduled to also visit Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh to assess the situation there.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Assam Police JN Choudhury, Home Commissioner Jishnu Baruah, Additional Director General of Police (SB) Khagen Sarma, Public Works Department Commissioner, besides senior officials from Border Security Force.

Earlier, Ramachandran also met Governor JB Patnaik and discussed at length various issues concerning the State.
