Ram Madhav to meet IPFT leaders in Tripura

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, March 12 - BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, accompanied by party prabhari Avinash Khanna Rai, will arrive here tomorrow, party sources said.

During the visit, Madhav will hold a meeting with the partys State committee, core committee and presidents of frontal organisations at the party headquarters to prepare a strategy for the upcoming general election.

Ram Madhav who looks after the party affairs of the State will arrive here tomorrow to check the partys preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections. The strategy for the election campaign and selection of candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats will be discussed, said a senior party functionary.

Besides, Madhav is scheduled to meet a delegation of the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), BJPs partner in the coalition Government in the State.

The meeting with the IPFT leadership assumes significance keeping in mind the tribal partys recent decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone. In his last central executive committee meeting recently, the IPFT decided to field candidates for both the Lok Sabha seats.

A day before Madhavs visit to the State, the IPFT today reiterated that it would contest the Lok Sabha elections alone if it is not given the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat.

A five-member committee headed by IPFT president NC Debbarma has already been constituted to select candidates for both the Lok Sabha seats, said partys assistant general secretary Mangal Debbarma at a press conference here.

We wanted to hold a meeting with the BJP leadership on the Lok Sabha elections, but they downplayed our request, prompting us to take tough stand on the issue, he said.

Debbarma said if the IPFT is allowed to contest from the East constituency, it would support the BJP candidate for West Tripura seat or else the party would contest both constituencies.

However, Debbarma confirmed that there would be a meeting with Ram Madhav here tomorrow. Let us see what happens in the meeting, he said.

IPFT vice presidents Ananta Debbarma and Brajalal Debbarma and IPFTs women wing president Swapna Debbarma were present in the press conference.
