Rally against violence in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, May 30 � Several organisations today led by ex-BLT Welfare Society, surrendered NDFB and NDFB (P) took out a rally against ABMSU in protest against the violence took place during the 24-hour bandh call given by ABMSU in Kokrajhar yesterday.

The rally passed the main thoroughfare of Kokrajhar town with placards, posters and banners and shouted slogans against ABMSU. The rally gathered at the DC�s office of Kokrajhar around noon and submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister and others through the Deputy Commissioner Kokrajhar.

In the memo, they have demanded immediate arrest of the ABMSU leaders of Kokrajhar, compensation to the injured persons and for vehicles damaged by ABMSU activists apart from banning of ABMSU.

In the memo, they have also alleged that there has been a problem of encroachment near Bedlangmari forest areas being a matter of concern the authority along with various organisations took a decision on March 19 last to clear forest land from illegal encroachers but hording of a signboard with an ugly design by a faction of minority community was removed by a visiting protection team, the memo stated.

They have also alleged that during the bandh yesterday the ABMSU activists attacked several persons including policeman and inflicted injuries with an aim to fuel communal clashes and destabilize the peace and communal harmony.

Meanwhile, the district and police administration of Kokrajhar held discussion with several students� organisations appealing them to call off bandhs detrimental to progress and development and also condemned the sporadic incidents during the bandh hours yesterday.

At the same time Kokrajhar merchant association has also condemned incidence of violence yesterday during bandhs and appealed organisations to abstain from calling bandhs every now and then to eradicate bandh culture from the society.
