JORABAT, July 4 - A huge rally was organised by six Amri Karbi organisations of Dimoria region today in protest against the proposal to set up a firing range of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Sonapur.
According to sources, the government proposes to set up the SSB�s firing range on 300 bighas of tribal land in Bandargog village under Dimoria tribal block.
Local people joined the six Amri Karbi organisations in the protest rally that was taken out from Sonapur Baligate to the office of Sonapur revenue circle demanding constitutional safeguards for the tribal people.
The protesters shouted slogans like �tez dim, SSB�k mati nideu� (We will shed blood but won�t give land to SSB), �Provide constitutional protection to indigenous people of Dimoria� and �Stop acquisition of tribal lands�.
A joint memorandum was also submitted to the Sonapur Circle Officer by the six Amri-Karbi organisations namely Amri Karbi National Council (AKNC), Amri Karbi Students� Union (AKSU), Amri Karbi Arloso Asem (AKAA), Amri Karbi Bangthe Asem (AKBA), Amri Karbi Tsornam Ahartsi (AKTA) and Amri Karbi Ruktsak Asem (AKRA).
