Rallies against extortion in BTAD

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 14 In view of the prevailing tension and lawlessness in the entire BTC area, Hagrama Mohilary, BPF supremo and chief of BTC, today called for a protest and peace rally in every subdivision of BTAD on December 16.

Talking to mediapersons here at the BTC Secretariat, he said that the BPF party will organise the rally in order to promote peace in the area and convey the message to outfits and groups to abstain from creating fear and keep away from threats, extortion, kidnapping and other illegal acts of violence.

He also urged the Government to confine the cadres of the ceasefire NDFB to the designated camps so as to facilitate the administration to identify culprits involved at this crucial juncture to prevent repeat of such incidents. He also maintained that although Kokrajhar is in focus after a few incidents of extortion, leading to the exodus of doctors, a similar situation prevails in other parts of the BTC area too.

At the same time he said that at any cost peace has to be restored for which he appealed to the people from every walk of life to remain united in this effort.

Meanwhile, tension also mounted in the Tulsibil Bazaar area of Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district following a crude bomb blast under a bus belonging to a theatre party around 10.45 pm last night when a show was on at a little distance. As a result of this incident, the bus was partially damaged. However, no one was injured.
