Rajnath to meet NE CMs today

NEW DELHI, July 10 - Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will chair a meeting of the Chief Ministers of North Eastern States and Sikkim at Guwahati on Saturday.

The Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Union Home Secretary LC Goyal will also participate in the meeting.

During the meeting, security-related issues, including, counter-insurgency operations, suspension of operations agreement, effective functioning of anti-extortion cells and strengthening and equipping of State police forces of the region will be discussed, said sources.

The participants will also discuss effective guarding of international borders adjoining north-eastern States. In addition, important development projects, besides flood and landslide in the region will also be reviewed during this meeting, sources said.

The Home Minister�s meeting comes amidst pressure by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam to ban NSCN (Khaplang), which is indulging in wanton killings and extortion drive.
