Rajnath to lay foundation at Palashbari

MIRZA, Nov 28 � Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art Central Forensic Science Laboratory complex at Urput village in Palashbari tomorrow. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will preside over the function, while Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju will also attend the function, stated a press release.

Official sources said that the establishment of the new CFSL at Guwahati is a part of a bigger expansion plan of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, MHA, Government of India to provide quality, timely and credible forensic services to all State and Central law enforcement agencies, public sector undertakings and courts of law. This expansion programme has been taken up as a XII Five Year Plan scheme with an outlay of Rs 285 crore to establish three new CFSLs at Guwahati, Pune and Bhopal.

Official sources said that the six CFSLs � at Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune, Bhopal and Guwahati � are administered by the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, New Delhi.

The CFSLs provide forensic science support to the entire country in the complex forensic areas, such as DNA, computer forensics, audio-video authentication, shooter identification, explosive detection, frauds and forgeries, etc.

Presently, the CFSL-Guwahati is operating from Tetelia, Gotanagar and it started taking up forensic cases in the field of questioned documents and biology and very soon the facilities for cyber crime examination will be added.
