By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today spoke to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over phone and assured all assistance to deal with the situation in the wake of the Pengeree militant attack in which three Army jawans were killed.

During their telephonic conservation, Sonowal apprised the Home Minister of the details of the attack, the situation arising out of the ambush and the State Governments efforts to track down the perpetrators.

Terming the attack as despicable and cowardly the Chief Minister said the perpetrators will be nabbed and punished.

Such an act is a threat to a peaceful society and the government will leave no stone unturned to unleash a combing operation to punish the insurgents involved in killing. It is an act of cowardice and the perpetrators will not be let loose and they will be handed stringent punishment, Sonowal said.

The Chief Minister has already directed DGP Mukesh Sahay to rush to the spot and take stock of the situation. The DGP and other police officers camping at Pengeree are maintaining close vigil on the development.

Sonowal condoled the death of the three jawans who laid down their lives and expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured soldiers.

Meanwhile, Governor Banwarilal Purohit condemned the incident and said killings will not serve any purpose. It is a sign of desperation and frustration on the part of the insurgents, who are guided by their sheer myopic view. Such an act of high-handedness has no place in a democratic society, he stated.
