Rajib wins chess title

DERGAON, July 25 � Rajib Dhar of Guwahati clinched the champions title in the Guna Kanta Phukan Memorial All Assam Open Prize Money Chess Tournament held at Kuralguri HS School, Baruabamun Gaon here from July 21-24. In the tournament, organised by Swarnalata Chess Academy, Baruabamungaon, under the supervision of All Assam Chess Association, 9 rounds were played and Rajib scored the highest (eight) points in the open category.

Debashish Duitta of Guwahati secured the second position with 7.5 points and Rahul Charan Singh of Silchar secured the third position with 7 points.

On the other hand, Anurag Kalita (6 points) and Swapnanil Saikia (5.5 points) secured the first and second positions respectively in the U-15 category while Dibangshu Lahan (5.5 points) and Iyom Ikbal Hazarika (4.5 points) secured the first and second positions in the U-10 category respectively.

The prize distribution meeting was held with Nripen Dutta in the chair.

All Assam Sub-junior boxing from today: The All Assam Sub-junior Boxing Championship will be held at the police Training Complex here from July 26-28. The championship organised by the All Assam Boxing Association (AABA) will be held in boy�s and girl�s categories in the age group of 12-16 years.

According to State secretary of AABA Hemanta Talukdar, the championship will be held in 18 weight categories in both the groups. About 400 participants including officials will take part in the tournament.
