Rajen Gohain�s comments on Bengali language decried

SILCHAR, Dec 14 - Reacting against the statement of Union Minister of State (Independent charge) Rajen Gohain to withdraw Bengali as the official language of Barak Valley, the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students� Association (ACKHSA) said that the statement by the Parliamentarian is unconstitutional.

Talking to the mediapersons on Tuesday, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, chief advisor of the students' body said �Bengali was declared the official language of the then undivided Cachar district by an Act as per the Constitution. Hence, the statement of Rajen Gohain is an insult to the Constitution of the country.�

Tributes to martyrs: Along with the rest of the State, the Cachar district unit of Asam Gana Parishad (AGP) paid tributes to the martyrs of Assam Agitation on Saturday.

In a meeting organised at the district office, the AGP members of the district and local committees paid floral tributes to the martyrs and observed a minute's silence in their memory as well.

Speaking on the occasion, Nurul Enam Mazumder, district president of AGP said that they have also offered tributes to the late senior leader Dilip Saikia.

Leo Int'l Expo: Leo Advertising will hold the 3rd International Leo Expo 2016-17 from December 16 to January 3 next at the Town Club ground in Silchar.

Mridul Dutta, coordinator of the expo said that main attraction of the expo will be a replica of Coliseum, the first stadium to have hosted the Summer Olympic Games twice, in 1932 and 1984 and has been proposed to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Dutta informed that several leading MNCs and reputed brands will put up pavilions at the expo. Like previous years, some foreign countries, including Thailand, Bangladesh, Turkey and Egypt will be participating in the expo this year, he added.

�There is a rich pool of talented singers in our State and popular singers like Manisha Hazarika, Prasanta Hazarika along with Manasi Devi and Mitul Hassan shall enthrall the visitors in the expo. Also, Silchar-based singers Bikramjit Baulia and Anusua Choudhury together with local music band Dolchhut shall perform in the expo,� Dutta informed. He added to say that they have made arrangements for promoting cashless marketing as well. Moreover, there will be a sit-and-draw contest for children on December 25.
