Rains likely during Bihu

GUWAHATI, Jan 11 � Rains, fog and cold winds are feared to play the spoilsport for the Bihu revelers of some parts of the State during this Bhogali season.

According to the sources in the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here, light rains would occur at one or two places over West Assam and Meghalaya during the next 48 hours since this morning.

Light to moderate rains would occur at a few places over NE Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the same period. On January 13, light rain at one or two places may occur over NE Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, while dense fog will cover a few places of West Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura in the morning hours that day.

South Assam, Mizoram and Tripura will be under the cover of fog during the morning hours between January 11 and 13, sources said.

Minimum temperature will be around 12 degree Celsius in the city tomorrow. This is around 2 degree Celsius below its normal minimum temperature for the period. Its maximum temperature will remain around 21 degree Celsius tomorrow, which will be around 2 degree Celsius below its normal maximum temperature for the period, sources said.

Meanwhile a press release stated that like last year, this year too the Paschim Guwahati Nagarik Sajagata Mancha is organising Magh Bihu on the sands of Brahmaputra falling in the premises of Sonaram High School field, Bharalumukh here on January 14 from 9 am.
