Rains damage 30 houses in Sikkim

GANGTOK, June 19 � Over 30 houses have been damaged in heavy rains in Sikkim and more than a hundred people relocated to safer places, official sources said today.

Landslides have also hit various parts of West Sikkim district since Sunday, the sources said.

The houses were totally damaged in Dentam block with nine houses in Ferek basti. Another six houses have been destroyed in Maneybong and Sophlaka, the sources said.

The families who have lost their homes have been relocated to safer areas.

At Kyongsa under Gyalshing four houses in the village were damaged in a landslide. In Lower Bhaluthang another four houses have collapsed with all the displaced families now living in makeshift shelters.

In Upper Omlok, seven houses have been severely or partially damaged. � PTI
