Rains add to winter chill

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 16 Thunder cloud over the sky resulted in a few spells of rains over many places over Assam and adjoining North East states today adding to the discomfort of the people in these winter days.

It is expected that more rains would occur over the NE part of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the night hours today.

Disclosing this, sources in the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said that few spells of rain would also occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh and few places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram during the next 24 hours.

Sources attribute this development to a trough of low pressure extending from Bihar to central Assam and to sub Himalayan West Bengal and Nagaland. However, there is a possibility of the trough moving eastward during the night hours today.

On the hails accompanying the rain over the city twice today, sources said that it was a "local development" connected with thunder cloud.
