Railways badminton meet gets under way

GUWAHATI, Nov 22 � The 58h All India Railway Badminton Championship began at the NF Railway Sports Association Indoor Stadium here today.

The championship was inaugurated by Keshav Chandra, general manager, NF Railway. In his inaugural address Chandra highly lauded the players who won gold medals in international level games. He specially mentioned the names of Renu Bala Chanu and Boby Singh of NF Railway who won gold medals in the last Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi and in world body building championship held in Varanasi this year. He expressed hope that the championship would provide enough scope of improvement to the players.

Earlier, Alok Dave, President, NFRSA welcomed the participants. The oath was administered by Anjali Kalita of NF Railway. The vote of thanks was delivered by PK Singh, general secretary of NFRSA.

Today�s result: (Mens� team championship) Railway Board lost to East Coast Railway 0-3, North Western Railway lost to West Central Railway 0-3, South Central Railway bt East Central Railway 3-0, South Eastern Railway lost to South East Central Railway 2-3, South Western Railway bt Central Railway 3-1, Northeast Frontier Railway lost to Northern Railway 0-3, Diesel Modernisation Workshop lost to North Central Railway 0-3. (Womens� team championship): Southern Railway bt East Coast Railway 2-1, Northeast Frontier Railway bt Western Railway 2-1.
