Railway Week awards presented

GUWAHATI, April 12 - The 61st Railway Week (Zonal level) awards ceremony was held at Rang Bhawan, Maligaon here today.

General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) HK Jaggi gave away a total of 226 individual awards to achievers from various departments of the five divisions and headquarters of NFR and NFR Construction Organization.

He also gave away 28 group awards, 34 efficiency shields and six special commendation awards. The total number of awardees was 434.

The New Coochbehar station of Alipurduar Division was adjudged the best kept station for the year 2015-16 and the second best kept station award went to Mariani station of Tinsukia Division.

The Dibrugarh Railway Hospital won the best kept hospital award and New Tinsukia Station of Tinsukia Division won the best passenger amenities award.

The overall efficiency shield went to Tinsukia Division of NFR for its all-round performances.

The Railway Week awards were instituted to recognize the efforts and endeavour of railway employees in efficient and dedicated discharge of their duties.

The celebration is also held to mark the anniversary of running of the first passenger train in India from Bori Bunder in Mumbai to Thane � a distance of 34 km � on April 16, 1853.
