GUWAHATI, March 22 - Train services in the State were affected today as Adivasi organisations staged rail roko at Kokrajhar, Majbat and Sapekhati to press for ST status and for fulfilment of other demands. The stir was led by the Adivasi National Convention Committee at Kokrajhar and Majbat and by Adivasi Suraksha Samiti at Sapekhati in Charaideo district. The rail roko started at 6 am. A number of local trains had to cancelled, while many long-distance ones were delayed.
The agitation at Sapekhati was withdrawn at 10.30 am, while at Kokrajhar and Majbat it was withdrawn at noon. NF Railway CPRO Pranav Jyoti Sharma said train services resumed once the agitation was withdrawn, but added that many trains are running late.
