Raijor Dal makes draft constitution public

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - Newly formed regional political party Raijor Dal on Saturday made public its draft constitution here and sought opinion on it from all sections of society.

According to the constitution, the party will work to build a politically federal, economically self-reliant and socially inclusive Assam. It will also work to get back the special State status to Assam under Article 371 of the Constitution of India as a safeguard to the identity and interests of the Assamese people.

The party also pledged to transform Assam into a fully agrarian state and develop a chain of public industries to strengthen the economic foundation of the State along with developing an exploitation-free, social, secular and democratic social system with the aim to decentralise power up to the village level and confer autonomy upon every indigenous tribe and group.

Releasing the constitution, the convenor committee of the party said that in the coming days, it will contest the polls and work to address the issues related to the greater Assamese society. They said that based on public opinion, the flag and symbol of the party will get finalised in the coming days.

On the issue of �illegal foreigners�, the draft constitution said that Raijor Dal will work to make Assam free from foreigners and implement Clause 6 of Assam Accord along with ensuring political and economical safeguards for the Assamese people.

It also spoke about equal rights, status and development for all sections of society.

About membership, the constitution said that any permanent citizen of Assam and NRI Assamese who is 18 years or above, and having no relation with any other political party and organisation, will be eligible to become a member of Raijor Dal.

�There will be two types of membership � one is primary and the other active. Only active members will be eligible to contest any election on the banner of the party. A primary member will become an active member after going through a training session. Moreover, the party will operate through a 10-layer organisational structure,� the convenor committee said.

After analysing all expert comments and public opinions, the party will finalise and adopt the constitution by making all necessary changes during its first convention to be held soon.

The convenor committee said that anyone can give opinion on the draft constitution through the official website of the party � www.raijordal.org.
