Raid in BDO�s house; cash, jewellery seized

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 � The Anti-corruption and Vigilance wing of the Assam Police today carried out a search in the house of Block Development Officer of Mayong, Mohd Gajnifur Adil located in city�s Hatigaon area and seized cash worth over Rs seven lakh, besides gold and silver.

Sleuths of the anti-corruption wing also recovered US dollars and Bangladeshi currency during the search which began since this morning.

A ten-member team led Superintendant of Police (Anti-Corruption and Vigilance) Ronak Ali Hazarika carried out the search on the strength of a case (7/12) registered with anti-corruption and vigilance police station.

�The case relates to charges of siphoning of huge amount of money meant for the rural development under various flagship programme of the Government like NREGS and IAY from 2005 to 2008,� said Ronak Ali Hazarika.

It is alleged that Adil along with some other Government officials, during his tenure as BDO of Borkhetri in Nalbari had misappropriated a huge amount of public money released under various Government schemes.

�We have recovered cash in Indian, American and Bangladeshi currencies during the search. Besides, gold and silver hidden inside pillow, flower tub, mattresses and toys were also recovered,� official sources said.

Investigators have also seized 7 bank pass books, three land deeds and other investment details for examination.

No one was arrested in this connection till the time of filling this report.
