Rahul to kick-start campaign on Nov 26

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Nov 4 - Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will formally launch the ruling partys election campaign at Guwahati on November 26 when he will visit the State on a two-day tour.

Disclosing this, PCC president Anjan Dutta said Gandhi is scheduled to undertake a two-day tour of the State from November 26. We have finalised the Guwahati rally, while the programmes for other venues would be finalised after I go back and consult party leaders, he said.

Gandhi is expected to address rallies on both days, formally starting the party poll campaign in Assam, which is scheduled to go to poll early next year.

Dutta said he had called on the Congress vice president here this afternoon to finalise Gandhis tour programme. AICC general secretary in-charge Dr CP Joshi accompanied Dutta to the meeting.

Asked whether he had discussed with Gandhi the issue of electoral alliance, Dutta said that the issue did not figure in the meeting, which was focused mainly on organisational matters.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi unwittingly set tongues wagging when he hinted of a possible electoral alliance with the AIUDF. He has since retracted his statement, while AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has called for maintaining equal distance from both Congress and BJP.

Gandhi quizzed Dutta about the partys preparedness to face elections, including status of the booth management.
