DIPHU, Feb 25 � Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today arrived at Diphu accompanied by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita amidst bandh calls given by various organisations against his visit.
Amidst tight security, Rahul landed at the Diphu Assam Riffle Training Centre around 11.15 am in the midst of a 12-hour Karbi Anglong district bandh call given by the Hills State Democratic Party (HSDP) with support from various student and youth organisations opposing his visit.
Later, Rahul interacted with the representatives of the autonomous councils on the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) premises. During the interaction, the Congress vice president said that he was in favour of decentralisation of power as well as decentralisation of funding of parties. He also laid stress on empowerment of women as well as youths.
Further, he told tribal leaders that he wants to �include you all in our choice for candidates� for the upcoming general elections. �Not only your MLA, but you too can choose your candidate for the Lok Sabha polls,� Rahul said.
Later, the representatives of the respective autonomous councils submitted memorandums separately to the Congress vice president, seeking fulfilment of their demands.
